What is LSVT?
LSVT, short for Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, is an intensive, research-based physical and occupational therapy program designed specifically to help individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions improve their movement and mobility. The program focuses on enhancing large, exaggerated movements ("BIG" movements) to counteract the smaller, slower movements often associated with Parkinson's. Through personalized exercises, the program aims to improve balance, walking, and everyday activities, helping individuals regain independence and confidence in their physical abilities.
Program Components
Intensive Repetition
Maximize movement control through repetition
In the LSVT BIG program, you’ll perform high-frequency, large-amplitude movements to retrain your brain and body for better control. This helps you overcome the small, slow movements that can limit your independence.

Amplitude Calibration
Increase movement size for daily tasks
You will focus on moving with larger, more deliberate motions, which addresses the tendency to move in smaller, restricted ways. Your therapist helps you recalibrate your perception of normal movement, so you feel confident in your daily activities.
Daily Exercises
Build strength and balance with targeted exercises
Your therapy includes specific exercises designed to increase your strength, flexibility, and balance. These exercises are easy to incorporate into your routine at home, so you can build and maintain your progress between sessions.

Functional Tasks
Improve everyday activities for greater independence
The program helps you practice everyday tasks, such as getting up from a chair or walking, so you can apply the improvements from therapy into real life. This approach ensures your gains in therapy translate into increased independence and a better quality of life.
